If it involves anything spinning, on fire, or capable of doing major bodily harm-I'm in! All my interest in art has revolved around most things capable of seriously hurting myself-spinning wheels, hot kilns, grinding stones (and nails), cutting and soldering hot metal-love it all! A good friend of mine once said "if you are not living on the edge, you're wasting air..." this is my own personal quest in that regard....

A Whole Weekend of Wonderful–

6 incredible ladies on a mission—2 days of having just a bit of fun and a few laughs while they cut, torched, pounded and manipulated raw metal into amazing works of art.   I was beyond impressed.. .  The pieces they made were as unique and beautiful as the women who created them–

And there was more-much more.  Once the cuff production was under control, earrings were next on the addenda.  And I think a pendant or two…too busy to get any more photos-will plan better next time :).  Thank you ladies for sharing your creative ideas, the energetic company,  and infectious ideas of fun!

Never get tired of Cuffs..

I don’t do much reticulation (almost melting) on brass or copper because of the toxic fumes it gives off, but was fun just playing with this one the other day-absolutely love how it turned out!  It’s made from brass but picked up some copper in the pickle-and I left most of it on to see how it would turn out…good call!  Not sure if I can part with this one, need  some time to think about it…..I ‘m sure I have room for just one more-or six.

Friends in all the right places..♥♥♥

Look what landed in my workshop this week..I am soooo excited, can hardly contain myself. Doin’ a big happy dance! Over 100 pounds of copper, which in my mind calculates to enough earrings and cuffs to keep me going until 2030 (more or less). Be careful what you wish for…

Thank You Jim! The bad news is my husband just lost another 10 square feet from his side of our shared workshop.

Bustin’ out in Bangles…

The old anvil was ringing today-look at these ladies go!

An afternoon in the shop produced these fabulous pieces, only wish my first efforts had been anywhere near this spectacular…they were not..we had spinner bangles, we had twisted and wire weave bangles, we had beaten copper bangles..and much more–it was all about the “bangle” today!

Was a high energy, very creative day – I love the look they have on their faces when the realize they’ve created this marvelous keepsake-from scratch-with their own hands. Yup-was a good day…thank you ladies!

Boho Bangles

Make sure you have your Wheaties this Sunday-we’re going to be bending and hammering heavy gauge wire and tubing to create all sorts of fabulous stuff! These bangles will provide lots of opportunity for your unique and creative ideas- I’ll show you the basic concepts and they rest is all play– well….almost. This is a terrific project to add any of your special “Stash” items to–like special charms, old glass beads, almost anything you can hang off a metal ring. There will also be some wire weaving involved-just another opportunity to add more bling – and you just know me, I’m all about the “bling”…

Boho 3

There’s more…kind of like that tube of toothpaste..I can always squeeze out just a bit more…we’ll also be making one of these…beyond yummy!
Boho 1

Some sad news-remember my last post where I was babbling all about that amazing new torch…well, it died. At least the “Lock” switch did :(. Good news is the supplier is replacing it and we should have it’s replacement back in the shop soon–lucky us!

Limited seating as usual, so let me know if this is a workshop you want to attend-email me at carolgeurts@gmail.com for more details.

Spectacular Sunday!

Not sure how one can be so relaxed yet energized at the same time, but today was one of those days….had a shop full of amazing folks who jumped right in and had no fear–they fired up all the torches, (nothing caught fire-well, I don’t think steel wool counts…), tackled the shear cutter, (all left with their original digits intact), and didn’t loose any nails or skin on the grinder…my idea of a successful day! I think there’s just something in the Creston Valley that creates these very special women with a “can do” attitude….and no drama. Loved ’em!

My “new” torch arrived yesterday so we took it for a test spin today-it’s gob-smacking fabulous!!!! (pretty sure that’s a word…) Ain’t she purtty????? Thank you my friend Diane Cook for suggesting I buy this brand–
New torch
Look what the ladies made..I am in awe–and so proud of every one of them-

Next Sunday is “All About Bangles”.. you will be just a little surprised what we are going to do with a little copper tubing, wire and sheet metal…and no, it doesn’t involve building a still–this is even better! More to follow, stay tuned!

Magic happens here….

Can you believe it all starts here…an rather unimpressive pile of dull and tarnished raw metal sheeting…

and ends up here…

If you think you’d like to learn some new skills and share some laughs in the process , join me this Sunday, November 9th at Creston, BC for my Cuff workshop. You’ll forge and hand form a base metal cuff, learn how to etch and apply a patina, some texture techniques, fold forming, cold connections, and a whole lot more. You’ll be fairly impressed with yourself and what you are able to create at the end of the day-and just maybe make a dent in your Christmas shopping list. Contact me at ValleyMetalArts@gmail.com for more details, very limited seating.

Just Smokin’

No Fear!!! Most of the workshop participants today had never worked with wire or metal, fired up a Propane torch, and certainly stamping with molten solder wasn’t something most had ever heard of. Nobody flinched and dove right in-they were quick learners and I was beyond impressed at what came out of our workshop this weekend! These are just a few examples of what they created-must be something in the air in this Valley…Wow.

Crosses N’Crystals

Nostalgia for all things with a history and reflections on a recent loss of a loved one took me here today-the sun was shining like mad between rolling thunder clouds, and the gorgeous rays of sunlight made these vintage crystals just dance across my work space. They’ve been sitting is a drawer for nearly 5 years, a treasured find from one of my most very favorite treasure-seeking places on earth, General Salvage Ltd in Victoria, BC. -real old glass crystals from a chandelier back when those baubles were real glass….and do they ever sparkle and shimmer! Took some problem solving to get them strung-and a few bandages. The old glass splinters are lethal-

The cross design is popular in the jewelry world, but I added a new twist with custom copper rings in a size that made a bit of a statement-these neck pieces are on 35″ chains and can be found locally at Creative Fix in Creston BC, and soon to be featured on my Etsy Store. Thanks for dropping by, stay connected for new products and schedules for workshops being offered!

New Workshop-Earring Extravaganza

This is going to be a busy day–so many techniques, so little time…here is what I have planned for us~

“You’ll design your own hoops and ear wires, then learn loads of techniques to showcase them-beaten copper, folded and textured brass, stamped silver solder, wrapped wire, adding beads and baubles, patinas—and oh so much more! You will leave with enough unique, serious bling to put a major dent in your Christmas shopping list…and add to you arsenal of metalsmithing techniques. “
